Gun control advocate gets mugged by reality

Posted by David Hardy · 19 April 2013 01:28 PM

Story here. The author wanted to buy a BB gun for his 9 year old nephew. Finds out that in NJ, he has to have a firearm purchaser ID card just to handle it in the store. And then be finds out all that he has to do to get that card.

Your comment seems to think this is spam. My comment about Gun control Advocate gets mugged by reality is:

He learned about NJ's silliness but still hasn't figured out that maybe sitting down and talking with the NRA directly about their specific problems with the bill might be just as eye opening as trying to buy a BB gun was. Of course that would mean accepting the possibility that NRA is not as evil as he believes.

But hey, Governor Christie is going to fix all that:

(via PJ Tatler)

Next in NJ: you will need a permit just to THINK about anything that resembles a gun, be it BB gun, snacked upon Poptart, thumb-and-forefinger...

I like this statement from the article best:

"...the only thing I fancy less than guns is being told I can't have a gun."

This reporter still has not figured out yet that he has to wait till his Nephew turns 18 (which is the year 2022), and then bring his Nephew to the New Jersey State Police, have his nephew fill out the same form, have his nephew fingerprinted, has his nephew submit references, have his nephew investigated, and after his nephew gets his NJ Firearm Purchaser ID Card, and then have his Nephew fill out a NJ Certificate of Eligibility, and then (and ONLY then), on Christmas of the year 2022, he can give this BB gun to his Nephew without breaking any NJ laws. It's going to be a great Christmas in the year 2022 for his nephew!!!!

The nephew lives in Texas per the comments by the author.

When I used to live in NJ, I wanted to buy a small pellet pistol. I had already gone rigmarole to get a Firearm Purchaser ID Card to purchase a shotgun and thought that would be fine to buy a small BB pistol. I learned that, just as an BB rifle is considered a long rifle, a pellet pistol was considered a handgun. In order to buy this would require me applying for a pistol permit, filling out basically the same forms, and paying for yet another background check. I figured it was a better idea to just move out of the state.

Yeah, NJ, unlike any other govt entity I know of, considers a BB gun a firearm for legal purposes.

Technically you can get arrested for discharging a firearm for shooting a bb gun in your own home.
Asinine.

"Gun control advocate gets mugged by reality"
but recovers in time to avoid cognitive dissonance or the need to change his basic beliefs.
