How many errors can a person make...

in one article about guns and gun culture? I gave up counting. The illustration is appropriate.

I'm convinced. When a manly, "good man" who teaches sociology and yoga speaks, we lesser beings must listen.

That poor schmo is gonna shoot hisself in the arse.. I do note that commenting appears to be off (or there aren't any members of said site, hard to say).

This is why I don't engage with these people. Logic, law, history, and facts have no place in the discussion. It is the old wrestling with a pig in the mud story. Lately is isn't just futile, it is dangerous. You can be red flagged, cancelled, SWAT'ed, and on numerous lists.

I lost brain cells reading that article due to all the wandering tangents. Hit all the buzz words on the anti-gun list though. He also doesn’t follow through on what occurred during his range time after he got his concealed carry permit. Nothing. I have to wonder if the range safety officers kicked him out.

Sorry, I couldn't get through the article. It was too nauseating. I appreciate that you read that stuff so I don't have a toilet-hugging death wish from reading it.

When I was an undergrad you heard that sort of drivel from the sociology teachers and majors, but that was 50 years ago. I would have thought the drivel would have gotten a little bit better but I guess they have learned nothing in that 50 years

Other than the absurd photo, I first noticed the attitude. I'm an "woke" individual skilled in "blending-in" among less enlightened cultures, e.g., Hawaiians, bikers, gun-owners. I also noticed the authoritative use of a single number (41,500) to prove how much more savage we are than other cultures. The data I've looked at (comparing our firearm-related death per-capita rates with those of other countries) actually shows that we're somewhat less savage than most. But then, I'm an economist who works with actual numbers.

His experience in a single gun class, if one takes it at face value, seems radically different than the hundreds of classes and several thousand students I've taught over the past 30-some years. Roughly half my students have been women, black, or Hispanic, in population with fewer minorities than Arizona. I've also had a disproportionately high number of students who openly identify as LGBTQA+. I also note that either he had a horrible instructor or grossly misunderstood the legality of the use of deadly force.

Matches my perception of sociology as an undergrad 50 years ago and as a faculty member more recently. Actual empirical data and statistical methods seemed to be a foreign concept to them.
