Support for "AW" or semiautomatic ban falls well below 50%

In fact, 57% oppose and only 40% favor a ban on "semi-automatic guns, known as assault rifles." (I guess we can't expect pollsters to know much about guns).

"Semiautonomous?" I've heard of self-driving cars but not self-shooting guns. :)

Surely that's because the NRA controls all media outlets and won't let 'em talk about it. I probably saw that on Twitter, so you know it must be true. ;-)

the phrase they use:
banning "semi-automatic guns, known as assault rifles."
is telling - up to this point many people had the impression that assault rifles were full auto now I think more people are aware or notice that it says semi-auto in the phrasing. Was this always true? Gallup claims they have been using the same wording since 1996 but I am suspicious.
