Nothing like science!

Posted by David Hardy · 7 May 2018 07:38 PM

At Townhall.com, Kurt Schlichter writes "Why Science and Experience Command That You Buy an 'Assault Rifle'." His experience during the LA riots is instructive.

A very problematic piece, IMO. Full of name-calling, stereotyping, and subjective insinuations/accusations, none proven; facts and alleged science MIA. It will convince gun control advocates of exactly what they already firmly believe. At the time of the riots, I was volunteer working with an NRA area rep, who insisted that after the riots, CA would have no more gun control; I knew he was wrong -- the riots are the reason for CA dem and gun control wins, just like in 1968 -- deju vu all over again for me.
BTW, I am a liberal, self described, of the Enlightenment tradition & a registered Republican; voted for Trump: the lesser of two insane grotesqueries. Dems are headed to a mid-term landslide.
Typical conservative point of view is that liberals are devoted to science because it is secular & use it to undermine the sacred. Partly true: science is secular & materialistically objective. In truth, I suspect that both sides like science only as when it supports them.
Gun control advocates say science supports their side. Had this op-ed's author had known some criminology, he could have argued otherwise.
