On a given day, anything is possible

For once, I agree with Jimmy Carter. Except for his statement about the prosecution having taken on an impossibly high burden. Any burdens are imposed by statute. The problem was the prosecution had no case.
The prosecution took on the "impossibly high burden" by refusing, in the face of political pressure, to "no bill" Zimmerman, if that's the proper phraseology. I am not a criminal lawyer, but I believe it is the duty of the prosecutor to not carry cases forward where there is patently no case.
