NYC firearm permits

Posted by David Hardy · 6 December 2008 10:22 AM

An interesting article. 37,000 permits of one or another type, about half of them to security guards or retired LEOs, most of the remainder only allowing possession but not carry. Only a little over 2,000 full carry licenses.

Mayor says that for the last "you should have to really show that your life is in danger, and that having a gun will protect you, will improve the chances of you surviving.”

Curiously, the last include a fair number of actors, celebrities, and politicians. I wonder why Donald Trump, Robert DeNiro, Tommy Mottola, and Don Imus' lives are in danger to a greater degree than anyone else's.

To be perfectly fair, that policy should be modified to require the use of armed bodyguards. I'll bet I get more range time in every year than any ten of those celebrities.

The only reason they get the permits is because they are powerful personalities and they can get whatever they want in New York, it being the original "you got IT or you don't got IT" fiefdom.

I would support the NRA trying to sue these "may issue, if you've got bucks" places out of existence. It would be worth a few hundreds of my fixed-income money to see some actual fairness.

As I see it, it's easier to morally support a TOTAL ban on permits than the hackneyed system in New York, or CA or other so-called "may issue" places.

Maybe if NONE of these "important" folks could get a permit, maybe they and their big bucks would join the fight to make these places "shall issue".

Imus even occasionally brags about his permit on his radio show. You would think he might be smart enough to keep his mouth shut about it.

Oh 37,000 permits, I was just shocked when I saw the amount. The government should not provide more permit because it will increase violence instead safety. Another way to overcome crime to recruit more police officers.

Your shocked at 37,000 in a city of millions? You can rely on more police recruiting , but the truth is you should be the primary line of defense for yourself!!! Ever had to call the police in NYC? 15 min PLUS response time!!!
