AHSA: just Brady Campaign in a flannel shirt?

Posted by David Hardy · 9 October 2008 07:43 AM

An interesting concept. Sensible Progressive lists the positions of American Hunters & Shooters Assn and Brady Campaign on gun control issues and demonstrates, surprise, that they are identical.

I don't think the AHSA has anyone in the pro-second amendment crowd fooled and probably not even among shooters and gun owners in general. The real danger of the AHSA is its ability to masquerade as a legitimate pro-second amendment organization to the mainstream media. I imagine that there might be more than a few quotes from the AHSA circulating in the media verifing Obama's pro-gun credentials. And the media, being the boobs they are, probably accepts them as gospel.

I know that anyone who cares about the 2nd amendment or even occasionally reads an NRA mag or gun associated website knows the truth about AHSA ... but there are millions of gun owners there who don't do any of those things. And when they see a supposedly "pro gun" group referenced by the media as an expert and members talking about political issues, to the extent they care at all they will pay attention.

Sad but true.

And also sad but true is how many hunters out there own their handful of hunting rifles and just assume that the anti-gun debate doesn't affect them because "nobody wants to take away the guns of hunters, dontcha know?"

Someday this latter group will have a rude awakening if we lose battles today.
