Congressman tries to butter up hunters and slips

Posted by David Hardy · 11 July 2008 07:35 PM

Bitter has the story here. Mark Udall of Colorado issued a press release saying he would introduce a bill designating part of Pittman-Robertson money (an excise tax on guns, ammo, and other things) for hunter safety and range development, and allowing agencies to roll over unspent money to the next year.

Minor problem, as Bitter points out, is that that's already the law and has been for years.

As a general rule, I'd much prefer politicians concern themselves with passing laws that are already on the books (or perhaps even repealing them) than with dreaming up new laws for our "benefit".

Why Pittman-Robertson? Why not....repeal part of McCluer-Volkmer.....you know....922(o).

It's stuff like this that crystallizes my choice to never hunting, because one day I'll end up like the Fudd's killing gun rights.

Except that's not what they do. That's merely what they talk about doing before they do something else.
