My pre-1964 Model 94 is one of my pride and joys.

Please let's drop MLK day and replace it with JMB day.

Heck, JMB pretty much invented every type of firearm we have today, other than bolt-actions (already been done, y'know).

Lever guns-check, pump guns-check, semi-auto (recoil AND gas operated)-check. Full auto-check. (The Ma-Deuce is the heavy weapon of choice in Iraq) Every auto pistol made (INCLUDING the Glock) is the descendant of the 1911.

And many of his designs are being manufactured to this day with little change. Genius barely begins to describe his accomplishments.

How about the conversion of Lever action rifles to fire semi-auto or even full auto.

Yes he did that!

JMB the Father of modern firearms.

JMB didn't invent the lever action, Henry and Winchester repeaters beat him to that goalpost, but he did invent the Model 1892, the which I like even better than the '94.

His father invented a repeating caplock rifle before John was born, and before the family moved to Utah. His son Val was also a firearms inventor with multiple patents of his own.

Wonder if it was something in the water?

Compared to the Great John M, all other arms designers are mere footnotes. Kalashnikov, Stoner, Garand, Johnson, Ruger, Colt, the Remingtons, Winchester, Saive, Knight, Henry, you name 'em, they don't compare. Hell, all together they don't much compare.

Its an annual event for me to visit the JMB museum, here in Ogden UT, where many of his first article or prototype creations are available for view. Its an afternoon that every "gunny" should make time for sometime in their life. And call me if you do visit, we'll go shooting.
