Men are from Mars, women are from...
An interesting review of an interesting book.
It's by two female law enforcement firearms instructors, and apparently starts from the premises that women and men learn to shoot differently. It sounds like a heck of a conversation starter at, say, an academic reception. "I was just reading a book that suggests that women learn to handle themselves in a gunfight somewhat differently from how men do. You know, the "Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus" thesis."
UPDATE: check out the comments. We've someone online who studied under them.
Mr. Hardy,
Note the review is about two books, one aimed at the instructor (of female shooters), one at the (female) student. The student version just came out in the last year.
You can also order the book from Farnam's website, http://defense-training.com/pubs/index.html.
John and Vicki Farnam travel quite a bit teaching defensive firearms use. I took the basic defensive pistol course from them earlier this year, and it was quite good. John covered use of force continuum, justifications, how to handle the legal aftermath of a self-defense shooting, and lots of other good stuff. Vicki taught the shooting portion of the basic pistol class, while John was doing advanced stuff with pistol and long arms. Vicki was quite good. It was well worth the time and money spent.
Also on their website check out John's "Quips". Once you have been their student, John sends out frequent (at least once a week, often more) emails about defensive firearms usage - cases he or his students have been involved in, his evaluation of various firearms and related equipment, philosophy and history related to fire arms use. Periodically he publishes the emails on his website (http://defense-training.com/quips/quips.html) for anyone to peruse, and you might find them useful.
