Joyce Foundation underwriting Bloomberg, too?

Posted by David Hardy · 9 October 2006 07:38 PM

Georgiapacking has an interesting page tying together all the links between antigun groups and their financing. From them I got an interesting tip. Joyce Foundation's latest report on their funding of antigun efforts includes a grant of $175,000 to the Mayor's Fund to Advance New York City, "To organize a coalition of mayors from around the country to promote national, state, and local policies, litigation, and law enforcement strategies aimed at reducing the flow of illegal guns into cities."

The Mayor's Fund webpage describes it as the "umbrella not-for-profit corporation of the City of New York," and a 501(c)(3). So now Joyce is not only buying law reviews, and creating "astroturf" grassroots groups, but also funding public officials in their projects.

UPDATE: Welcome Instapundit readers! Take a look at the main blog, where I've blogged the recent George Mason Univ. symposium on the second amendment, and put up a trailer for an upcoming documentary film on the right to arms.

This is a universal problem. The new mayor of Pittsburgh was ordered to meet with Blooomberg a few days after becoming mayor. There is powerful force that doesn't like the idea of gun ownership. catholicfundamentalism.com talks about this issue. It's easierto blame guns for problems than a too-high minimum wage and other such big-state programs.

RKM: All the press for the mayors for illegal guns made me realize they were the same. In the news and on thier site it says they:
a. are a coalition of mayors from around the country
b. support all local state and federal legislation that targets illegal guns
c. discuss strategies for stopping the flow of illegal guns into America’s cities

Which is almost exactly what Joyce's grant said.

Just a year ago I would have said Brady is the biggest threat. While they may have the loudest single voice, Joyce has a chorus and it keeps growing. And now that the windbag Bloomberg has joined in, they are making quite a loud noise.

So, how to expose these shady shennanigans and bring these bastards to their knees?

Up here in Soviet Canuckistan, there are laws about "charities" lobbying the government...maybe give the IRS a dingle?
