Never bring a bat to a gunfight...

Sure, the students are safe in their classrooms because the only person allowed to have a gun has been ambushed by a student with a baseball bat (6 foot 1 inch, 250 pound...that's a grown man, in combat terms)...That officer is lucky to be alive.

What if that ambush was preparatory to taking his gun to kill teachers and students?

"As the officer tried to draw his firearm, the weapon's magazine clattered to the floor, Dyer said.

The student with the bat approached the officer again, the chief said, prompting the officer to reach for a second firearm attached to his ankle."

So how, exactly, are magazine disconnects supposed to make us safer? It's a good thing the cop had a BUG.

“Dyer said the campus officer had never talked to the student before the confrontation and the officer didn't know what sparked his attack.”

I have to wonder if this was intentional. If the officer was afraid he might lose consciousness he could render his pistol inoperable by ejecting the magazine (if it’s that kind of pistol). When he realized he wasn’t out of the fight, he drew his backup. Just wondering…
