First time gun ownership soaring!

Posted by David Hardy · 12 August 2022 12:28 PM

That's what NSSF dealer surveys show. Purchases by first-time gun owners in 2021 totaled over 5 million. Plus large numbers of dealers reporting increases in purchases by women and minorities.

I've felt that Americans were always a nation of gunnies; that was depressed in the 1960s and 1970s, and now we're returning to the norm.

I wouldn't get too excited, where were all these new gun owners when congress was discussing, then passing, the recent gun BS laws? Oh, looky, no help there. Seems they got theirs, to hell with everyone else. That gun will sit in the box, high on a shelf, getting buried in dust, until they feel safe again. Then, when the latest gun "buy back" comes along, they will decide to get that icky thing out of the house before it self-animates.

Perhaps we are seeing an increase in minority gun ownership because it was their neighborhoods that burned, as the police stood idly by.

I wouldn't expect new gun owners to immediately throw themselves into 2A advocacy. Increased gun ownership itself helps politicians realize gun control might not be the best issue to run on. New gun owners who ignore a fundraising letter around supporting new gun control, or who don't list adding more gun laws as one of the most important issues when responding to a politician's mailing, also help us.
