Former PM Abe assassinated with homemade gun

Posted by David Hardy · 8 July 2022 04:35 PM

Story here. The gun is visible on the ground in the photo where the assassin is being grabbed. It looks like two barrels made out of 1" or so pipe, about 18' long, and taped to some manner of wooden handle. A big puff of white powder seen in a video indicates it was fueled by black powder. What was the security detail doing when the killer walked up lugging that hand cannon?

Since Japan has such strict gun laws I would suspect that it simply didn't register with the security detail that it was a firearm.

When guns are outlawed...

A tragic event but in the US context it makes a point about the futility of outlawing guns when the knowledge of guns exists.

To the best of my knowledge, the first time a projectile weapon was outlawed involved Pope Innocent and crossbows in 1139. Since then, every time it's been tried was just as successful as the first one. Typical politicians. If a plan doesn't work, keep trying the same thing.
