Is arming teachers the answer?
Instapundit reminds us of a John Lott paper a few years ago.
"Twenty states currently allow teachers and staff to carry guns to varying degrees on school property, so we don't need to guess how the policy would work. There has yet to be a single case of someone being wounded or killed from a shooting, let alone a mass public shooting, between 6 AM and midnight at a school that lets teachers carry guns. Fears of teachers carrying guns in terms of such problems as students obtaining teachers guns have not occurred at all, and there was only one accidental discharge outside of school hours with no one was really harmed. While there have not been any problems at schools with armed teachers, the number of people killed at other schools has increased significantly - doubling between 2001 and 2008 versus 2009 and 2018."

I had the pleasure of attending a Dave Grossman lecture. He has a multi layered program aimed at detecting aspiring school shooters before the shooting starts. They stand out when you know what to look for. He also has a violence detox program for treating at risk children. He has recommendations for the school building and safety procedures. Finally his programs include armed teachers and administrators to provide that extra measure of deterance.

Arming school staff may provide deterrence. Getting smoked by Mrs. Crabapple doesn't have a lot of celebrity value.
But it definitely stops mass shootings before they become that. Even when they don't screw up, police response takes an average of 6 minutes and an unopposed gunman will shoot someone every 10 seconds.
It would seem there some that place party dogma ahead of actually protecting our children. May a pox be visited upon them!
