Australia outlawing paintball guns

Posted by David Hardy · 7 February 2022 08:01 PM

It looks like they call them "gel blasters", but however they term them, they seem to think they are just too deadly. Perhaps they are useful in crime over there, but I wouldn't recommend trying to stick up a store with a paintball gun in, oh, Texas or Florida or any free state.

Can't have anyone having fun, now...remember, it's a prison colony

Gel blasters are not paintball guns. Most Australian states' laws already treat paintball guns as actual firearms. Gel blasters are more like Airsoft. The difference is that the projectiles are apparently soft/squishy rather than hard plastic like Airsoft projectiles.

As anony mouse said they are basically a small caliber airsoft that shoots a water absorbing sodium polyacrylate (commonly used in floral arrangement and gardening) sphere of around 6mm in size.

They actually have less velocity than regular airsoft projectiles.

Paintball guns do hurt, on a level comparable to a Simunition, with the main difference being a Simunition will penetrate bare skin. Pain is of course what makes them both a worthwhile training device. The LEO pepper-ball / paintball munitions are no joke either, combining the paintball kinetic energy with the Capsicum burn.
Still, NOT a firearm.
PepperBall, Walther, and Umarex all make paintball "guns" shaped like real weapons, and yes, they would be very likely to get you shot (especially with a bit of black paint added).
