I've read that in Britain the crown has a near absolute monopoly on the use of violence. If you are violently attacked your only recourse is to run away, or wait for agents of the crown to show up and protect you.

I know it used to be true that if you personally fought off an attack you were just as likely as the driver in this story to be charged with the crime of assault or homicide, while your attacker got government-paid legal aid to sue you for the injuries you inflicted on him.

There are plenty of examples of this sort of prosecutorial thinking right here in the good old USA. Kyle Rittenhouse is only the latest and most famous.

"Other witnesses were too frightened to intervene."

Too frightened of being arrested, apparently.

Basically in Britain it is illegal ( whether actual law or not) for you to defend yourself. They will arrest and prosecute you. And they usually bury actual crime numbers so everything looks rosy
