Meaningless blabber about Rittenhouse verdict

Posted by David Hardy · 25 November 2021 11:24 AM

Shocked by the thought that a man may defend himself against violent attack. Inadvertently revealing which side they are on, in an emotional sense.

I've been offline a couple of days in the aftermath of cataract removal surgery. All is well.

Update: the parents of one of the aggressors really added to the BS:

"Today's verdict means there is no accountability for the person who murdered our son. It sends the unacceptable message that armed civilians can show up in any town, incite violence, and then use the danger they have created to justify shooting people in the street."

"No reasonable person viewing all of the evidence could conclude that Mr. Rittenhouse acted in self-defense. In response to racist and violent calls to action from militia members, Mr. Rittenhouse travelled to Kenosha illegally armed with an assault rifle. He menaced fellow citizens in the street. Though he was in open violation of a curfew order, Kenosha police encouraged him to act violently. Kenosha police told militia members that they would push peaceful protestors toward the militia so that the militia could "deal with them." Soon after, Mr. Rittenhouse killed Joseph Rosenbaum. The police did nothing. Concerned citizens, confronted with a person shooting indiscriminately on the street, stepped in to stop the violence. Anthony was shot in the chest trying to disarm Mr. Rittenhouse and stop his shooting spree. Still, the police did nothing. Mr. Rittenhouse continued to shoot, maiming Gaige Grosskreutz. The police let Mr. Rittenhouse leave the scene freely. Mr. Rittenhouse came to Kenosha armed to kill."

Tucker, on his Fox News show, said that Joseph Rosenbaum died as he lived, trying to touch an unwilling minor.

Thanks to Kyle, Gaige Grosskreutz is forever marked as a left winger and the other two learned a little too late that gun grabbing can be hazardous.

Anti-gun zealots or watermelons, same comment.
Meaningless blabber pretty much covers it.
I gave up engaging with these people 18 years ago.

And the lawyers are almost finished with the first set of papers to file for a wrongful death suit, for both of the choirboys who died, to be sent to the city, the police unions, Kyle Rittenhouse, his lawyers, the garbage handlers unions, and anyone else that they have thought of between the death of the poor innocents and the end of the trial.
Myself, I liked the interview between Kyle and Tucker Carlson, when Tucker mentioned something about Kyle suing CNN or something. All Kyle said was, " my lawyers are handling all that stuff."
No getting into it, no embellishment, no anger, just that short, to the point statement. Who wants to bet that it doesn't go to trial, after CNN settled with Nick Sandman, when he sued them for 275 million$. The amount they did settle on has not been confirmed, but it certainly had to be substantial, if not the entire amount. They faced a huge trial hurdle.
I wish none of this had happened, because Kyle Rittenhouse's life will forever be under a cloud. I hope he is surrounded by good people, with nothing but his best interests at heart, for the next 5-10 years. Because no matter how adult this young man appears, he is only 18.

Been thinking a lot about this case and the reaction to it. Many wanted a conviction or acquittal, not based on the evidence and the law, but on the broader message to society. Our founders recognized that this impulse, even when directed to the issues of the greatest societal importance of the day, were troublesome. They gave England the Court of Star Chamber and other atrocity-generators. When someone calls for a verdict based on the needs of society or the issues of the day, they are underscoring why criminal defendants have and need all the rights enshrined in the Constitution - to protect them from such well-meaning would-be tyrants.

Good faith question: if Grosskreutz had shot and wounded or killed Rittenhouse, would he have had a colorable self-defense claim ?

People are ignoring the obvious sub-rosa crypto leadership of the Kenosha riots: AntiFa outside agitators. The skateboard-as-deadly-weapon tactic is pure AntiFa playbook—read the Rose City Guidelines that came out of Portland a few years back. The purported “idea,” the one that the Democrats—from Biden on down—keep bullshitting out of existence and their actual role as the leftist storm-troopers that they are, have “bookstores” and “bike” stores in cities all over America where they have clandestine training sessions in professional rioting and assault on their critics and adversaries. Skateboarding is a top tactical move that they teach in every one of these classes. The boards are plywood, solid hardwood, or dense resin, the trucks holding the wheels are heavy duty, and the overall weight is superior to a baseball bat or an axe handle. They seem unwieldy, but notice howvthe smash on Rittenhouse’s head was brought down on its edge with full body weight from the legs used, and a follow through that was only interrupted by the self-defense action of Mr. Rittenhouse. The people shot were all involved in aggressive actions calculated to kill or seriously injure a person who was willing and able to defend himself. That they died is their own fault for acting aggressively toward an armed civilian.
