Alec Baldwin shooting

Posted by David Hardy · 22 October 2021 06:45 PM

According to this report, the gun in question had "misfired" (maybe they mean malfunctioned) several times before, but was kept in action. Still, this sounds like a case of a live regular round going off. Whatever it was completely penetrated one person and went on to seriously injure another. But what fool would allow a regular cartridge anywhere near a set like that?

Sounds a lot like comments designed to keep a person out of court. The "Propman" (property man) is usually an experienced expert who maintains the weapons and selects the load for the blank to give the flash, smoke, and muzzle blast required for the shot. Any "misfire" would have meant repair of replacement of the firearm. Most historical cartridges from the black powder era have enough capacity to accept an "over load" of modern propellant thus creating conditions for mechanical failure. I have been told that some stage firearms have a partially blocked barrel or chamber as a safety feature. A partially blocked barrel and a "hot" blank could cause mechanical failure and injury to anyone close by. A firearem with a "blank" is not a cap gun.

Misfire or previous negligent discharges? We only have their terminology for previous incidents with no details.

The fact that is was not another actor hit, but rather two members of the crew is telling. A firearm in a movie might be pointed in the direction of another actor, and then an injury from a faulty round or gun might occur. An injury to crew? That sounds like an ND all the way- finger on the trigger and pointed at someone. Faulty ammo or gun is a kicker.

I can imagine the (cinematic) shot - actor pointing gun slightly off-axis to camera while mugging. Pretty standard fare for a western. Means gun is necessarily pointed at the veritable crowd standing/sitting behind the camera. No fan of Alec Baldwin’s politics, but my heart goes out to him - he’s just a speaking puppet in this context and to have ended up killing a mother… holy crap. Many lives affected besides the victim, as always.

As the producer of the movie as well as being the person that pulled the trigger, he is responsible for the safe work environment.

Oops.

Staff members quit in the days before he cimmittee manslaughter. Why? Safety was cited, specifically 3 negligent discharges.

I hope her lawyer husband bankrupts alec.

It Looks Like Her Family is Blaming the Armorer or Set Master & Not Baldwin.

Didn't help any that the head armorer (maybe the only one given the low budget), was a child. Yes, I know 24 isn't necessarily a kid but this particular 24 year old obviously wasn't ready for the responsibility.

"Gutierrez-Reed was described as being “inexperienced and green” by a Rust production source, who told The Daily Beast there were at least two previous incidents of guns being accidentally discharged by other crew members before Thursday’s tragic incident."

2 previous incidents should have resulted in replacement.

Alec Baldwin should be treated with the same amount of sympathy and kindness he treated Dick Cheney with.

It won't let me post, but at least I can post a comment. I'm still trying to resolve issues here and get back to posting. I can't post via my main computer, an older Mac, via multiple browsers, nor via a Windows laptop, nor via a tablet.
