Bernie Sanders and gun control

Posted by David Hardy · 13 February 2020 06:20 PM

An interesting history. I know for many years he had an A NRA rating, with good reason. He voted against the Brady Act, and for the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Firearms Act. Now, of course, he's running for the Demo nomination....

There are few things as obscene as the malleable nature of political expediency. Continual pandering for dollars and votes while making excuses for a complete lack of principles.
This with a 95% incumbent re-election rate, and voters who say "MY VOTE IS NOT FOR SALE".

Sanders had said repeatedly four years ago that he was only moderately pro-gun because one early election he lost was due to an anti position he once took, and it wasn't a popular one among his constituents.

He's an anti at heart.

He would have to be as he is at lease a socialist and they can not afford to have anyone other than them have guns

For most of his history, Vermont had no real "gun control" laws on its books. For example, there were no restrictions on open or concealed carry, including no requirement for any kind of permit or training. During campaigns to adopt concealed carry in other states 20-30 years ago, VT was often cited as evidence that concealed carry did NOT mean gunfights in supermarkets over the last sale item, as concealed carry opponents used to claim. Supporting any limits on the right to keep and/or bear a gun was not a smart political move in the state back then.

Over time, enough Middlebury College graduates decided to stay in the state that it eventually became the left wing cesspit that now elects the only avowed socialist in the United States Senate. Demographics matter.

In all fairness, wrangler5, Vermont is *STILL* a very liberal state when it comes to gun laws. It's still a "constitutional carry" state. I live not all that far from Vermont in New York State, and as soon as I cross the border I can carry a handgun concealed without a license of any kind, whereas in NYS I would have to go through a very expensive, intrusive, and time consuming procedure just to get permission to own one, and in my county, I couldn't even think about applying for a carry permit until I had a pistol permit for 5 years.

In fact, I joke with my family and friends that Vermont is "FA", or "Free America", and that I live dozens of miles behind enemy lines.

Vermont may have increased some restrictions, but trust me, it's a lot better than its neighbor to the west.
