Uber driver shoots back
Clayton Cramer has the story: Winter Haven, FL Uber driver picks up a lady, who is coming away from an argument with her boyfriend. Boyfriend cuts in front of the Uber, draws pistol, approaches uttering threats. Uber driver gives him a warning shot to center of mass.
(And yet again, the story writers confuses "stand your ground" with ordinary self-defense standards).

The lady in the Uber wasn't the girlfriend. Girlfriend just happened to help the inebriated lady get into the Uber. Idiot boyfriend CONFUSED the situation and chased Uber then ran him off the road and approached Uber with dark object in hand (cell phone), in the dark, while loudly proclaiming that he would shoot Uber driver. ONE round to center of mass made him Darwin Award Winner of the week.
Actually it was SYG, which also must meet self-defense conditions. Haven't heard enough to know if driver claimed SYG or just S-D. Sheriff Grady is good with it though. Good man.
In 2005 Florida strengthened its justifiable use of force statues. F.S. Chapter 776
They added/ammended three separate statutes.
Presumption of fear in your home. 776.013
No duty to retreat (stand your ground)776.012
Immunity from prosecution. 776.032
Immunity: If your actions are consistent with the justifiable use of force statutes, then you cannot be criminally or civilly prosecuted.
It is the immunity from prosecution that everyone confuses, by calling it stand your ground.
These cases should be called "Self Defense Immunity" cases.
"what the Polk County sheriff called a classic 'stand your ground' case . . . referring to the controversial Florida law"
The sheriff himself confuses SYG with ordinary self-defense standards.
