This explains the modern approach to security
Parkland high killer Nikolas Cruz made multiple, violent threats, and the school and law enforcement ignored them. Parkland High survivor Kyle Kashuv posts pics of himself, with his father, at a rifle range and police are called to detain and grill him.
The difference seems to be that it's safe and easy to f__k with Kashuv, he's a law-abiding person who is not going to put up a fight or hold a grudge, whereas it might have been difficult and risky to f__k with Cruz.

"a law-abiding person who is not going to put up a fight or hold a grudge WITH A COP, whereas it might have been difficult and risky FOR A COP to f__k with Cruz."
Sure. Since cops primary mission is to go home safely at the end of their shifts, which will better accomplish that mission? Going after known criminals, or fing with the law abiding?
There is a nuance the gun-controllers are overlooking.
Law-abiding gun-owners are peaceful and slow to anger. We are rarely, if ever, violent. And so it appears to Progressives that we can be gently herded into boxcars bound for coastal re-education camps. It's really hard for them to see beyond superficialities.
We've read the books, notably Death by Government by Rummel. We know the choreograph. This isn't a European country. Their chosen target is not a ethnic group committed to passivism. It's a culture tracing its spiritual roots to Scots-Irish.
If their governments can't handle a Cruz how will they deal with 100 million Kashuve's? It will come as a momentous surprise for which the will have failed to prepare.
I believe that this is also an intentional step to dick with responsible gun owners. They view us as their real enemy. So whenever there is an opportunity to screw with us, they will take it. They know that this kid isn't a psycho-killer. But they will choose to mess with him anyway.
