More on the Texas killer
According to this story, he not only had the court-martial convictions for domestic violence, he had been "jailed" (convicted? the story is unclear) for DV in a civilian court, and had escaped from a mental health facility (an involuntary commitment? another bar to gun ownership, if so. There is a mention of "danger to self or others," with the commitment based on threats he had made).

NICS is a joke. It's not accurate. The lists are corrupted. Now we find there's spotty enforcement.
Maybe Congress will audit and correct now, but I doubt it.
It is not whether congress will audit - it has been known for years that many agencies do not report. This is especially true of Pysch cases, many psychiatrist and psychologists will not report patients due to a sense of patient confidentiality. If the case was adjudicated it might be reported but maybe not depending on the jurisdiction.
So the whole thing is basically useless
If the commitment was voluntary he wouldn't have escaped, he would just check out. Any bets as to whether he was using illegal drugs-another disqualifier.
Damn, we need more laws covering those issues so folks like this can't get guns.
Oh yeah! We have them. Laws work really well. Laws do nothing. It is the enforcement of the laws by lawmen who do what needs to be done.
Once more government workers, the inept of the inept.
