Justice Scalia has died

Posted by David Hardy · 13 February 2016 03:23 PM

He was found in his room at a Texas resort ranch. Age 79.

UPDATE: Demos want to rush nomination of replacement; Repubs say no. I hope the Senate leadership has guts enough to stick to that.

...The best Justice we will ever know. We are truly diminished.

Time for GOP to standup and be counted at confirmation hearings. No more Boehner nonsense. GOP Establishment is good claiming they are the real conservatives. Let's see what they're made of. However, I bet Senate waits for the new POTUS to make the pick.

I don't know if I should take this as a signal to buy Smith & Wesson (or Ruger) or start buying gold for the blowout. As Clayton Cramer has noted Obama couldn't get even a moderate through the house and senate today, and the fight will benefit Cruz and Rubio. But it also will be the thing that will make every "progressive" come out of the woodwork to try and gain control of the court. Not just to over turn Heller, but Citizens United and any other ruling (including the recent one of the EPA regulations). The rest of this year will not be pretty.

I just had a horrible though, as I was watching Obama's remarks on Scalia's death. Some one suggested a while back that if Bernie or Hillary was to win the presidency they could then nominate Obama to the court. Wouldn't be the first time an ex-president was nominated to the court.

one can hope that this sad event will bring the importance of the Presidency into focus, and shape which Republican they would support on the basis of whom he or she would nominate to the Supreme Court.

If the choice were between YYUUUGGGE and principled, I'll take principled, thank you.

President couldn't even wear a tie. So much class in that little man.
