Federal prosecutor blowing smoke....

Posted by David Hardy · 15 January 2016 05:48 PM

According to Ass't US Attorney Richard Southwick,

"llegal gun traffickers buy firearms in southern states with lax restrictions, such as Georgia, for about $150 per gun. The buyers only have to show ID, undergo a quick background check and they walk out a dealer's door with their weapons.

Then they drive a few hundred miles to states with strict gun laws, such as New York, where they find eager customers willing to pay $300 or $400 per handgun, Assistant U.S. Attorney Richard Southwick said. That's a mark-up of 100 percent or more."

Let's see--they show *out of State* ID and buy guns from a licensed dealer? A federal felony on both ends of the transaction. And they can buy guns at retail for $150? Gad, Georgians are so lucky with those prices, heck, they can probably get center-fire ammo for $10 a box, too...

I hold the rules of men in low esteem but if somebody offers you a firearm for $150 you might could look for another seller. Ignoring unjust law is your duty, as is avoiding firearms that, if used properly, might still severely injure or kill you. I don't dispute her price tag. She is simply lying when she says these weapons are purchased at gun stores. Avoid the law but buy ya a decent weapon.

Dave,

Did I miss something about "out of State ID"? There was no such quote in the article linked. Sounds more like accusations of native straw purchasers in southern states buying guns and then driving north.

Buying a gun legally from an FFL in one state and then transporting to another state to sell to another individual is, of course, already illegal under federal law. However, not much is said about enforcing that particular law.

...Reminds me of a cliche I grew up hearing : Hotter than a $2 pistol.

This reminds me of Schumer trying to pass a law against gunrunning. It turns out it would have reduced the penalties of the law that already existed. NRA's favorite, Gillebrand, is trying the same ignorant stunt.

I read the article twice. I think every act she is trying to prohibit is already a federal felony.

Am I missing something?

Besides, by the time you pay for gas, I'm not sure how much "profit" you can squeeze out of 150 dollars. I'm not even sure you can make the 15 dollars an hour that the liberals demand.??

One thing that I've seen, in these studies, that she's very carefully not mentioning, is the age of the guns.

The average age of the guns that are bought in Georgia or Virginia, and found at NYC crime scenes, is something like 7-10 years.
