And in the Annals of Useless Devices....

Posted by David Hardy · 20 August 2015 10:22 AM

We have a 7.62x39 derringer, and a 5.56 with 6.5" barrel attached to a 9.5" something else. BATF contends it's a suppressor, although apparently it doesn't suppress, and Sig contends it's a muzzle brake, although it looks designed to increase muzzle flip. Perhaps it meets the needs of those who really need to feel the muzzle blast on their feet?

The ridiculousness of this Sig 5.56 is a product of the ridiculousness of the gun and suppressor laws in this country. It takes the SB rifle tax stamp and the suppressor tax stamp and combines them into one gun that doesn't even need a stamp until you add a sheath to the "muzzle brake."

It basically means that you can buy and shoot your "integrally suppressed" "SB Rifle" for the year+ it takes to get the 200 dollar stamp of approval on your hearing protection tin can cover...

But i do agree, it would have been a better argument for being a large muzzle brake if they flipped the suppressor over. Not an acoustical engineer, so I don't know if that would affect the suppression quality post-tin-can addition.
