An interesting demographic

Washington state is involved in a battle over Initiative 541, a lengthy antigun measure... and, as David Workman reports, a study of contributions in support of it finds that 84% of contributions came from ten zip codes in urban and suburban Seattle. Here's a map of the Seattle area to give some idea.

I really wise these anti gun nazi's would stay out of my state. I guess those of that type living in Seattle don't realize how pro gun the rest of the state is, and how our state constitution is written.

You've made a minor, easy-to-make error.

Initiative I-594 is the anti-gun "universal" background checks initiative.

Initiative I-591 is the pro-gun initiative that seeks to block "universal" background checks and prohibit confiscations.

OH yes....city people.....Seattle ...Washington.....land of the stoners...nothing more needed.

You will not find this story in the local news. Now, if the Koch bros put $$ to 591, THAT will be on the front page of the Seattle Times & the TV news.

This is all going to come down to turnout. High turnout in central Puget Sound means gun owners are screwed. Lower turnout there and high turnout elsewhere means the good guys win.

I don't live in WA, but donated, one of those 285 individual contributors.
Pretty soon it will just come down to local turnout. If this issue doesn't get folks to the ballot box there to revolt against Seattle dictates, I don't have the slightest idea what would.

With luck and savvy voters, I-594 will suffer the same fate as I-676 (mandatory trigger locks) did in 1997. 71% of votes were against I-676, but if you had been watching the news leading up to the vote, it was considered a slam dunk win.

Unfortunately, having competing initiatives on the same ballot will confuse people. It would have been better to have just the anti-gun initiative and focus on its flaws (of which there are many).

In the event that I-594 passes, the resulting law will be virtually unenforceable with respect to private firearms transfers.
