Suit challenging Ohio State U gun ban

Posted by David Hardy · 7 July 2014 09:31 PM

Complaint here. It's brought by Students for Concealed Carry and Ohioans for Concealed Carry. The campus code forbids possession of firearms or ammunition "even if otherwise permitted by law," plus placing other restrictions upon possession (interestingly, the code for residence halls also prohibits possession of knives, airsoft guns, "paint guns," darts, and tasers, and extends the ban to areas near the residence halls).

While there is a constitutional challenge, it sounds as if the statutory points will suffice: from what the complaint alleges, Ohio has some pre-emption statutes, including one specifically saying that public colleges cannot prohibit a CCW licensee from having a firearm in a locked vehicle, and restricting the colleges regulating matters off their actual property.

Oh heck, this isn't limited to a single University!

All the LibFratUniv's are doing the same thing ... and they have been doing it for years.

EVEN if you have a CHL (Concealed Handgun License), you are considered guilty until found innocent.

You can NOT have a firearm on most University campuses (see my blog about Oregon State University, for example) without losing your registration ... if you are a student .... or losing your job ... if you are faculty or staff.

State law be damned; the U's are going to do what they want to do. They are an employer, or they have other ways to force you to yield your constitutional rights.

Bet your U has a "free speech Zone", right? And it's probably somewhere that nobody ever goes.

Buncha maroons!

At least these lawyers (in Ohio) are doing something about it! Rather than just complaining on the internet... Just teasing you a bit, Jerry the Geek

The only employees who could carry on campus would be Tenured Faculty as it would be almost impossible to fire you, but they would make your life a living hell for straying off the reservation.
Look at Mike Adams and UNC, can see it over at townhall.com

Too bad the administrators responsible aren't personally liable for the costs of their decisions

Historically there have been policies against having guns on university campuses. Even the sheltered world of higher education is not a safe place--and never has been. Students, faculty and staff ought to be able to exercise their right to take their self-defense into their own hands and get a CWP and carry responsible, off and on campus.

The types of people who obtain their CCP/CCW/CWP are exactly the ones we want carrying concealed firearms in this country. And I've seen 21-year-old college juniors and seniors more mature and level-headed than people twice their age. I say hooray for the college students and lawyers working on this project, and godspeed to their efforts under the Ohio Constitution. (What may work there may not be relevant to other states. I read the complaint linked in the OP.)
