More on the PA hospital shooting
Story here It now appears that:
1) the murderer had a pocketful of ammunition, suggesting that, but for the psychiatrist shooting him and other staff jumping him, he would have gone on a killing spree. "We believe that Mr. Plotts, if it wasn't for the heroic action of the doctor and the caseworker, we believe he was there and was going to reload that revolver and continue to fire and continue to kill."
2) The killer had been committed before, and his "records indicate has an extensive criminal past including a 1996 conviction for robbery, is prohibited from carrying a weapon."

D.A.: Gunman was offended by hospital's 'gun-free' policy

NOTHING WAS GOING to stop Richard Plotts from carrying a gun.
Not the law, not his felony record, not his questionable mental health and certainly not a sign.
Plotts, who shot and killed his caseworker and shot his doctor at a Delaware County hospital campus Thursday, may have done so because he was offended by the hospital's policy against guns, Delaware County District Attorney Jack Whelan said.
"There's evidence that he took offense to the issue that there were signs posted at Mercy Fitzgerald Health System indicating that it was a gun-free zone," Whelan said. "That's the only motive we have been able to determine at this point in time . . . he was upset about that policy."

Wouldn't be great if there were no more guns....maybe just machetes? Well, then, I guess it would take a good guy with a machete to cancel a bad guy with a machete......
Frank Masotti, that column you quote has done a very nice job of attempting to tie the murder/shooting to conservative values, as posting the hospital as gun-free is something the leftists support and conservatives decry as worse than valueless.
I wondered how long it would take for someone in the media to try that.
With all of that said, the drive by media will still say the Doctor was wrong. I would have filled him with bullets and let God determine if he was a good guy or not. The Doc did right.
