That's got to hurt...
Humane Society of the US pays $16,000,000 to settle racketeering suit against it. It had sued Ringling Bros. for alleged mistreatment of elephants, lost after it was discovered that HSUS had paid its lead witness almost $200,000, and then was sued for racketeering.

That article is worded so poorly, the reader might get the impression that the circus paid $16 Million to settle with the Humane Society. Talk about either intentionally bad writing or genuine journalistic incompetence.
Good article link. Thanks for posting it. Interesting that Humane Society of the U.S. took care to emphasize that their insurance paid all of the settlement so no "donor dollars" would be wasted on it.
Correct. Now all their donor dollars will be wasted on higher insurance premiums. One more settlement like this and they won't have to worry about insurance at all. batter up!
Nah, Jim, just like normal most of their (dumb)donor dollars will continue to be wasted on the salaries of the scam artistes running that operation.
The HSUS and ASPCA are both crooks.

A lot of people think that the ASPCA provides money to all the "SPCA" shelters across the US, they probably only give around 1800 out to the others the rest is kept in house just like the HSUS.
The ASPCA works in the New York City area and takes in around 4000 animals a year, it works out to around $5,000 to $28,000 per animal that actually is used in their shelters. The only way I could spend $5,000 on my dog in a year is if I included rent and $28,000 would be a house payment, car payment, utilities, cable (dog likes the tv on when I leave) among other things plus the regular stuff. I know costs are high out there but give me a break, especially if the CEO is pulling in over $500,000 a year and they have a $20,000,000 advertising budget.
