Documentary: Infringed: the Second Amendment in the Crosshairs
Posted by David Hardy · 26 July 2013 12:30 PM
It's in preparation, here's its webpage. I've met the producer/director and the co-director, and can tell you that they are pros at this, very bright, and very pro-gun. And here's its facebook page. I just gave it a "like."
Many thanks for the kind words, David. There has been a dizzying amount of misinformation circulated by the various anti-gun camps, but relatively little pro-2nd information has been made available to the lay public - at least not in a form they have been able to digest.
INFRINGED: Second Amendment in the Crosshairs seeks to make two critical points, wrapped in a highly entertaining and watchable wrapper:
1) The founders made clear that the rights enshrined in the Constitution, including its first ten amendments, are the birthright of all free people. The Constitution does not grant or bestow them because they are not government's to give (or deny) - these are rights that belong to the people as surely as they own their own skin. The Constitution merely recognizes that they exist and are beyond the reach of a legitimate government. Thus, attacks on the Second Amendment are attacks on the foundation upon which the US was built, and as such, should be repugnant to all, not just to gun owners.
2) The founders, having just fought a war for independence from England, would never have tolerated a society in which the employees of government were equipped with arms denied to the population at large.
Along the way we'll address some of the downright silly pronouncements of the anti-gun crowd (magazines are NOT bullets, and semi-automatic firearms do NOT fire in bursts). John Lott will be joining us to debunk gun-free zones. And we'll visit with citizens who have used firearms to defend themselves and their families from crime. But the pivotal issue will always be the founders' promise that our nation, unlike others, would never undermine the rights with which we are all born.
Funding for this effort will be derived from a Kickstarter project that will be launching soon. Once it opens we will have a very short time in which to raise an absolute minimum of $200,000 (but we’re trying for much more than that so we can raise production values and entertainment/engagement quality to the highest possible level). In the meantime we are asking everyone with an interest in this project to join us on our Facebook page.
We can't wait to get past the funding stage and enter production. We'll be interviewing David and other renowned Constitutional scholars, statisticians like John Lott, mental health professionals, firearms experts and many others. We'll be shooting reenactments of scenes from the Revolutionary War, the drafting and debate surrounding the Bill of Rights, dramatizations of present-day events in which firearms saved lives, and a lot more.
At the end we'll have a movie to which you can invite every one of your on-the-fence friends and relatives. The ancient Chinese saying goes: “Tell me and I’ll forget, show me and I may remember – but INVOLVE me and I’ll UNDERSTAND.” We expect to open a lot of eyes, change a lot of minds, and promote new understanding. Come and join us!
