Antigun media going nuts over Senate vote

Posted by David Hardy · 25 April 2013 11:23 AM

Amusing. Interesting that they never once consider the possibility that a gun bill might be voted down because there were better arguments against it than for it. Instead, it is always reported as NRA or gunowners' political pressure. I suspect this is simply because the first explanation would require reporters to understand the issues involved. What is an "assault rifle"? Why is the AR-15 platform banned, and the Mini-14 protected, when they shoot the same round, at the same rate, and take magazines of the same size? How frequent are private sales, how often do criminals buy at gun shows, what are the data supporting either conclusion? Saying that one side politically overpowered the other requires no such study and reflection.

The problem is that these are "common sense" gun control proposals. "Common sense" is double speak for "the facts do not support my position".

Lord, it's a grand thing to see these erstwhile social engineers all burned up. How dare the "Great Unwashed" practice democracy!

We must stay on guard though, they'll be back - and maybe this time without the "good" parts - first chance they get. Stay on Guard.

I once learned from a law book that when the prosecutor uses the words "common sense," the opposing attorney's skeptical antennas should quickly rise because the prosecutor is often not basing his comment on evidence, and could be trying to pull a fast one.
