A ... well, it's hard to say it's a mistake...
So I guess it's a lie.
Pres. Obama on the Sandy Hook shootings:
"make sure that we don’t have another 20 children in a classroom gunned down by a semiautomatic weapon – by a fully automatic weapon in that case, sadly.“

Pure speculation, but here is my theory (and I apologize if already posted by someone else somewhere):
It is interesting that Obama corrected himself after using the correct term "semi-automatic."
My suspicion is that the new talking point for the anti-gun crowd (to maintain as much confusion as they can between the guns they seek to ban and machine guns) is to use "automatic" in place of "semi-automatic" when referring to semi-automatic rifles.
They can justify this terminology with the (barely) plausible argument that "automatic" can be used to describe a semi-automatic action (as is done on occasion, for example, when referring specifically to Browning's "Model 1911 .45 Automatic Pistol").
Disingenuous? Absolutely. Debatable? Well, you be the judge. I do seem to recall already having heard the argument from some anti-gun source lately that this usage is acceptable.
Obama just screwed up because he got confused momentarily after he caught himself accidentally using the correct term "semi-automatic" and reflexively, but mistakenly, threw in "fully" in front of "automatic."
I almost crapped myself, but CNN is actually carrying the mistake right now on their front page! Someone's getting fired tonight!
