A great resource

Ruger has posted a page that lets you easily email your Representative, Senators, Governor and other officials. You can use their form letter or compose your own.

with all due respect to Rugar, these types of things are of very limited utility. Elected politicians know that email from these are generated with just a few clicks. What gets their attention is when you take the time to write a letter, one that has an old fashioned envelope and stamp, and/or pick up the phone and call their office.

Be careful using this interface.

When I tried it a couple of weeks ago, it got my state reps wrong, apparently determining my district incorrectly.

Sending a letter by conventional mail is NOT a good idea. All physical letters to Congress (and many federal agencies) are held offsite and "decontaminated" before delivery, which adds a long time to the delivery, and sometimes actually destroys the contents.

Email, visits or phonecalls are the preferred direct contact methods.

As another data point, I tried it; it picked the right people, and I figured it would just add one more to the tally, if nothing else. I received response e-mails from my state reps within a few days. One was just as formulaic as the Ruger message; the other was apparently written by a human (or at least my rep), albeit brief. Color me surprised.
