Oops....
"Gun belonging to Romney's Secret Service detail found unattended on candidate's plane. Apparently its owner left it in the plane's restroom.
And at Philadelphia, a flight attendant turns over a gun at the TSA checkpoint, and an agent or officer manages to fire it while trying to unload it.
Of course, gun carrying should be limited to those with government training, because only they can handle guns safely....

"the gun fired at Philadelphia International Airport as a police officer was trying to remove the bullets."
They forgot to add, "and pulled the trigger."
If they leave that part out, its' so much scarier to those who know nothing except what they read in the papers and see in the movies and on TV.
In my 47 years of shooting, I've never had a negligent discharge. This dick gets paid to leave his loaded weapon lying around? Sorry, but no pension for that guy.
What has not been mentioned out loud yet is that it was a .38spl S&W Airweight. No ned to pull the trigger before taking the slide off the frame.
Being sent for remedial training should be the least of the actions he is suibject to.
Wonder if anybody will accept the assignment as his partner (doubt anybody will volunteer).
stay safe.
If I feel the need to unholster to sit on the can, I always set my gun in the crotch of my pants/underwear, that way I cannot forget my gun when I am done.
Given the frequency of LEO types leaving their guns in toilet stalls, perhaps this advanced firearm retention tactic should be added to the curriculum of all LEO training organizations.
Brian:
I don't know if I would teach that method as I am sure we will start hearing about LEO's shooting themselves in the crotch. On second thought maybe that is not so bad - they won't be able to reproduce.
It sounds like the PO did remove the BULLET when he should have remove the CARTRIDGE. (One of my pet peeves.) I wish that we knew what kind of gun it was. Was he trying to take it apart and "dry-fired" the gun to remove the slide?
Slide? An S&W Airweight is a REVOLVER, and doesn't have a slide! All ya gotta do is push the little button, and open the cylinder, no trigger-pulling required.
My guess is, he was playing with it and set if off - the "I was unloading it" BS was his attempt to CYA.
Amazingly enough if you leave the firearm in the holster you don't have these problems.
What ever happened to, "Keep you finger off the trigger until you're ready to shoot"?
And who can forget the DEA agent shooting himself in the leg in a classroom?

At 32 seconds - "I'm the only one in this room I know of professional enough to carry this Glock .40." BOOM!
