Interesting question....
Does Obama think U.S. soldiers use AK-47s?

It's the "law-abiding citizen" that's the issue. The person across the street from me has an AK-47 and while he could be fine, his teenagers are not. He doesn't keep his weapons locked up. When he goes out at night, often the teens will take the gun and fire it into the woods behind them. To me, that's not okay because 1/4 mile through those woods is a farm and family housing, but police say that there's no law against it because it's his land... I'm fine with guns, but there are some people out there holding them that scare the hell out of me.
To quote a great line, the AK-47 is "the preferred weapon of our enemy." I most emphatically disagree with the president that AK-47s should be in the hands of soldiers, since most of the soldiers who have held them have been trying to kill Americans or America's friends. U.S. military members deserve better than an AK. On the other hand, I have no problem with AK-47s in the hands of law-abiding citizens. Everyone should agree that NO criminal should have a firearm - there should be laws against that. Oh, there are?
