This is pitiful, part 25....
Josh Horowitz, of the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, assures his Huffington Post readers that reports of increasing gun sales are a gun lobby fabrication. Background checks are WAY up, but, he argues, background checks do not correlate 100% to sale of new firearms. NRA responds, and he charges they are "angered over being exposed as peddlers of bogus data."
In the meantime, SIG Sauer is expanding its factory to meet demand: "Shawver said the expansion to Pease has become necessary due to rapid growth over the past several years. "We've tripled in size over the last five years, which is what has been driving our need for additional space," he said." Ruger reports: "Our earnings increased 42% in 2011, driven by the 29% growth in sales and our ongoing focus on continuous improvement in our operations."

Heck, I've purchased several guns over the last several years and haven't had a background check run at all because I have a CCW. In fact, I don't think I've had a NICS check run on me during this century.
I have NEVER been subject to an NICS check, all of my gun purchases have either been before the NICS check or I had a CCW that exempted me from it. And now I have a C&R so some purchases won't even require going through a local storefront :-)
Note that Ruger, famous for being one of the few publicly owned gun manufacturers in the US (i.e. anyone can buy their stock), can't lie when they make statements like the one quoted (at least not without committing a crime).
He does at least note the fact that you can be buying more then one gun and still have only one background check: thus background check numbers actually understate sales. But he then states the discredited study from the Joyce Foundation owned research group that says firearm ownership is half of what it actually is.
