Research

Blogging has been light since I'm in DC, hitting the Library of Congress' manuscript collections. Very interesting finds. (1) FDR's Attorney General planned a major push for national gun control, putting handguns back in the NFA (where they had been proposed for listing, but it was edited out in committee) and ultimately going for a permit system modeled on that of Great Britain. (2) Some materials on Dred Scott that I don't believe have been seen before. (3) In the course of looking for that, I actually got to hold and copy a letter by Abe Lincoln. As soon as I get back home I'll put it online.

Very Cool! There is something about actually touching a historical object that means more than just reading about it. I feel the same way about my 4X-great-grandfather's commission in the Continental Army..:)

Nothing about FDR surprises me anymore, it seems.

Try reading:

or

The Real Lincoln or Lincoln Unmasked by DiLorenzo.

Lincoln destroyed the Union and replaced it with a nation, all through violating the Constitution in just about every manner possible.

Homer Stille Cummings I have actually seen another spelling for "Stille" as well with accents such as for a French origin?

I must say I'm very interested in the FDR Administration material. It's quite clear that even if FDR didn't realize what he was trying to turn the nation into (I actually don't know about that, his realizations that is), plenty of those around him did and were taking the actions necessary to bring it about. The excesses of the Blue Eagle NRA (who curiously shared a building with our NRA) are well known by now, this sort of stuff, less so.

The Library of Congress is an amazing place. Just wish they could get stuff up from the stacks a bit faster...
