Comparing British and American riots

Posted by David Hardy · 10 August 2011 12:04 PM

The British experience and the American. The American experience tends to be briefer

I heard a candidate for the post of Mayor of London on the radio. She was saying that she wanted the police to take no action because she'd rather see houses and shops burning that police hitting people over the head.

UPDATE: a response to that candidate's position: three men killed while trying to protect their property.

In the Watts Riots of 1965, they declared a curfew, everyone ignored it.
Then, after two or three days, they deployed the National Guard and told them to enforce the curfew.
Some "revellers" tried to run a road block in the South-Central Area around 11pm. The guardsmen opened fire with a jeep-mounted M2, .50BMG machine gun (Ma Deuce), and literally cut the car in half. The riot was over by dawn.
Force works, if you have the will to use it.
If you don't have the will, you will not prevail.

In one of the news articles about the three dead guys it was said (by a police spokesman or even the chief leo IIRC) that "they died because they were trying to do what is a job exclusively for the police. Civilians are not supposed to try and defend their property. It was their own fault."

Wow, just Wow!

Rain also helps. Rioters go indoors when it's raining.

The British should take advice from the song "Bonnie Dundee."

To the Lords of Convention twas Claverhouse spoke,
Ere the King's crown go down there are crowns to be broke.

God made man, Colt made man equal.
Live free or die. That's an order, not an option.

This sort of BS is what Beta-Cmags and extended mags are for.

I want one of the new ones in 308.

Yep M2s are one of the best ways to stop riots.

The legitimacy of the government is untenable.

If government wants a monopoly on something, they have to perform or cede power back to citizens, ethically. Any legitimacy government or police have is lost if they don't. That ends in utter chaos until whoever uses the most force comes out on top, usually.

Self-defense is a human right, which is clear to anyone who has done a cursory study of the 2nd Amendment and law which predate it. In England, too.

The fantasy world of the London police is quite unnerving. "Run from the mob!" Er, run WHERE? Run HOW...on the Tube or a bus? The majority of people living in thses areas are likely dependent on government transport.

I didn't see where London police were handing out cakes and champagne to those on the run to sustain them on their journey, but I am sure someone thought it up. Probably short on champagne at Scotland Yard, only enough to see to their own needs.

Various "leaders" here have been calling for exactly this kind of rioting. MoveOn, SEIU thugs were at Boehner's Ohio office yesterday threatening to kick the door down. One has to wonder if the flash mob events of late are "warm-ups".

In Philadelphia, as we speak, the Mayor has imposed a curfew for teenagers on Friday and Saturday nights. There have been continuous flash mobs, organized on Twitter, where the "kids" assault people and destroy property. It just gets no press here.
