ATF cancels appointment of Newell as attache' to Mexico

Posted by David Hardy · 4 August 2011 05:04 PM

Story here. The part I best like:

"The reassignment comes at a time the Mexican Justice Department known as the PGR is reportedly conducting a criminal probe into the Fast and Furious Operation. It has also requested transcripts of Newell’s recent testimony before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, according to two people familiar with the situation.

Concern had surfaced recently within ATF that the Mexican government might arrest Newell if he came down there as the attache."

Wouldn't it be delicious to see some of these arrogant jackboots languishing in a Mexican jail where they might be given a few pesos a day to buy the paper they'd need to wipe their butts with?

Too much to hope for, I guess.

The US has set precedent on trying Arms Dealers in US courts. Now, maybe no ATF agents were "hands on" delivering guns across international borders, but they certainly facilitated the activities and stood to gain from the transactions, if only by promotions and increased salaries.

I still think someone got bribed somewhere along the line. There's just too much drug money, and this program was too stupid.

Unfortunately, about the only way they end up in jail is if Mexico does it

It's a sad day when Mexico threatens to take out our garbage!

Only the whistle blowers will be punished. Those willing to 'honorably' fall on their swords for the benefit of the Agency and those willing to lie and stonewall until this debacle is forgotten by the media will be promoted or transferred to more prestigious positions.

I think Newell might find a couple of years on beans and rice to be a learning experience and he could acquire a second language. No downside apparent.

Would this be another case of Mexicans doing a job that Americans don't want to do?
