Wave of commonsense gun laws

Posted by David Hardy · 2 March 2011 06:37 PM

A few months ago, Arizona became the third State to allow concealed carry without a permit. Yesterday, Wyoming became the fourth. And Publicola informs me that a Colorado bill to the same effect is up for a House vote today.

Unfortunately, Texas has no plans in the works for a similar law during the current legislative session. At least our new "parking lot" and "campus carry" laws are moving forward and should be implemented in September. Maybe in the 2013 session.

I'm not too sure how far along the Colorado bill will get. Too many folks from California have been infesting this state, so the hysterics take hold easily. The fact that 5 Dems in the state House voted Yea surprises me, so maybe there is hope.

The colorado legislature is pretty darn good with gun laws. but ... we have a governor who was the ONLY bloomberg MAIG mayor in the West.

If Colorado had been smarter about voting for governor this bill would have a real shot. But I can't imagine our governor responding to it with anything other than a V-E-T-O.

Here in New Hanover County (NC), the county commisioners have placed Veteran's Park on school property-where any firearm is prohibited under state law unleds you are a governmental employee.

Nice way to prohibit legal carry in county parks-this isn't the only park so owned...

Its progress though. In Rhode Island, you still have to sue a police chief to get them to just consider an application for a concealed handgun.

So? The folks in Arizona should be turning handsprings and shouting for joy that their munificent state legislators have decided to allow them to exercise a God given unalienable right.

Now if some of these otherwise enlightened states would only eliminate the long list of places one still isn't allowed to carry with or without a permit or license of some sort, e.g., bars, restaurants, public buildings, churches, places with specified signs, etc., etc., etc. Even in the People's Republic of Massachusetts, once one manages to get a license to carry, the only places off-limits (beyond those prohibited by the feds) are schools.
