Texas is a great place....

Most visitors to the Capitol have to go thru metal detectors, which can be a slow line on a busy day, but CCW permittees have a lane that sidesteps the metal detectors. So lobbyists and journalists are getting CCW permits in order to get in more easily.

Something similar is done in VA.

VCDL members descend on the state capitol on "Lobby Day" and permit holders are invited to use a side door that bypasses the metal detector.

I went thru the CHL line a few month ago when it was first put in place. It is only for Texas CHL holders, since the DPS checks it against the state database for suspension or revocation. Can't do that with out-of-state CHLs, so they are out of luck.

Interestingly, the trooper checking me and my wife asked us if we were carrying, which we were. Posts on one of the Texas gun boards indicate this is a common question -- not 100% but nearly so. I asked the trooper what if I wasn't carrying? He said he would send me to the regular metal detector line.

If this is still the policy, a lot of journalists and lobbyists are going to have to run out and get a gun to go with their CHL... Heh
