One thing is for sure, he made someone a happy camper with a ready made political add for the fall.

i think id have had to accidentally break his arm when he wouldnt let go. textbook cross-arm elbow-lock break hold. "i just tried to pry his hand off and... oopsie, dont know my own strength."

The behavior of the student was not exactly commendable, though it certainly did not excuse the Congressman's physical reaction. Why not forthrightly identify himself?

"Why not identify himself?" Fear? I sure as hell don't want a US Senator who is borderline-assaulting me to know my actual full name.

@Joshua - yep. Never know when a college might get a phone call threatening to suspend some grants or other gov't funding...

Joshua, Etheridge is a U.S. Congressman, not a Senator. But, basic fear is probably the reason he did not identify himself. Etheridge's beligerance was immediate. Surely no 20-year-old wearing a suit and tie, dressed politely and speaking politely would have ever guessed at such a response.

And, why's the face fuzzed out? Perhaps the same reason. Either it's fear of what Etheridge and Democratic goons would do, or it's that the young man may be something of a secret surprise. If this were a movie and I was writing the script, that young man would be the son of someone powerful and famous himself.

It may be that the face is being obscured only to be revealed at an even more damaging time.

But, reveal the name to Etheridge now? Are you kidding? Unless the young man has some powerful connections, Etheridge and the Dem thugs will do everything possible to destroy those two young males.

Why hasn't the Congressman been arrested?

noName | June 15, 2010 12:43 PM | Reply

Ed, he probably has not been arrested because the young male whom he assaulted has not pressed charges, and because the Dems who run DC would not permit a prosecution. It would be a waste of time for the young male to make a police report, and making such a report would reveal his identify to Etheridge and his Dem thug allies, and they'd do their best to destroy the young male. ... Etheridge did it; he got away with it, and none of the Dems are even suggesting a slap on the wrist for him.

And the fact that several Dems are defending him and that the others are acting as if it's a "so what" situation frightens me more than the fact that Etheridge did what he did.

Etheridge apparently needs a little lesson in constitutional law. He kept saying "I have a right to know who you are!"

Bzzzzt! Fail! No, you don't. Thanks for playing.

In any event, if you don't want to talk to the kid who's trying to develop his "ambush journalist" style, the proper response is just to say, "excuse me," and walk past without answering the kid's question. Instead, he chose to come out swinging - almost literally!
