Now, this is scary!

Posted by David Hardy · 9 December 2009 11:47 AM

Considering I have a doctor's appointment this afternoon, my mother is in a nursing facility recovering from surgery, and Chris Conte is in the hospital after a kidney transplant .... this is seriously scary! An annual 1.5 million Americans are sickened or killed by medication errors; another 98,000 are killed by infections acquired while in the hospital....

Man, we need a one-surgery-a-month law passed quickly!

Back about 93 I used data from the World Almanac and other sources to determine that

"One is 18 times more likely to die at the hands of a negligent doctor than to be killed with a handgun."

Hospitals are places people go to die.

Yep add this to negligent Rx and the AMA is anti gun--they need to treat themselves before worrying about firearms.

David - you don't understand if you are going to get killed they want top be able to charge you for it :)

and they are quite adept at burying their mistakes. I have been uncommonly fortunate of late by receiving uncommonly good treatment. Until I started dying, I had never gone for medical treatment that I did not end up worse off and had to heal myself against doctors' advice.

I don't know if medicine and its practice has improved dramatically over the years, or if I have just been exceptionally lucky in my choices of medical professionals of late. Whatever, the case, I am very grateful for my good fortune.

Not doing too bad for a man given less than two weeks to live in Sep. of '03. And I have actually improved to the point that it appears I may get to live a lot longer. What a nice surprise! I wish the same for you and yours.

Almost lost my father-in-law and what saved him was his other daughter is an RN and stopped by to drop off her son before going to work (2nd shift). She told him, "you're coming with me and we are going to the ER".
My brother just saved his wife my sister-in-law who has lung cancer and is dying but still has some time left. A nurse called him from the floor his wife was on because she knew the doctor's orders were wrong. My brother told her don't do a thing I'm on my way down. He kicked everyone off the case and got someone he knew and could trust. She wouldn't have seen the morning had the nurse who is a family friend not called him. This way she will be home for Christmas.
The sad thing is, its going to get worse and the people in the system know this.

As the saying goes: If you want to stay healthy stay out of the hospital.
In an emergency situation it is neccesary but otherwise it can be downright deadly.
