California seizes some unusual firearms

Posted by David Hardy · 3 September 2009 10:37 PM

Press release here. When raiding some bigtime cocaine buyers, the press release states, they seized

- Bushmaster AK-47, model XM15E2S, .223 caliber;

one of those Bushmaster AKs...

- Misa, model AD-47, .762 x 39 caliber; and

Another of those Military Impacted Schools Ass'n guns, and in 76 caliber! (Or maybe it was a Minnesota Institute of Sustainable Agriculture commemoratives).

- Smith & Wesson, model .445 Super Mag, .45 caliber.

Try Dan Wesson....

Hat tip to reader Josh Berger...

Never let the facts get in the way of the message. The rest of you, back on topic!

.729 is 12ga
.775 is 10

.762x39 sounds like a really weird semi-metric shotgun wildcat. Sounds cool!. Where can I buy one? Must use something that looks like uber chubby AK mags.

...wandering off laughing at the press and police once again...

These guys need to stop masterbushmastering and see about doing some useful research once in a while.

A .45 Colt uses a .454 inch bullet, a .38 revolver uses a .357 inch bullet, a .30 caliber rifle uses a .308 inch bullet, a .32 ACP uses a .309 inch bullet, a 7.92x57 Mauser uses an 8.2mm bullet, and a .445 SuperMag uses a .43 inch bullet. This can get a little confusing.

They don't know. They don't wanna know. All they want is to have those "things" banned.

I bet all of these would fall under the Curio and Relics definition of the ATF. Where's the importer so that I can get these unusual pieces of history delivered to my door?

I think this must be a Saiga product. Or it could be .762 mm, which would be interesting to see the manufacturing process for since some powders probably have larger granules than that.

Is the .762x39 metric? Because a .762mm would be a tiny bullet, but a .762" would be huge! Recoil on that thing

Saiga does make a 7.62x39mm, but that isn't what the article says. I personally don't know anyone who can't tell the difference between the 2 bore measurements, but maybe journalism schools dumb down their graduates.

REPUTO:

Dies come with instructions:
"Specialized powders must be used so as to prevent bore obstruction." :-)

CRITIC: You forgot .380 isn't. It's .355 just like 9mm as opposed to .38 actually being .357...

Still no excuse for stupid. If you don't know your guns, don't write about 'em. Problem solved.

I still want one of them weird SAIGAs though. Maybe Suarez knows where to get one :-)

Let's not forget the 9mm Makarov which is 9.2mm (too big to fit in German guns, and the round is too short to let German ammo fit in the Russian guns.) Ah, the joys of xenophobia.

California will soon be ratchting up its anti gun position as california begins to implode. Just read the story that is based out of L.A. called "Battle of Jakes" from internet patriots if you want to see the future.
