Los Angeles gun buyback
Gun buybacks' primary function is to enable gunnies to sell their junkers for above market value, so I probably should not be critical of them, but report seems exceptionally brainless. One of the organizers says of the people who turned out, "It's a pretty good-looking group of citizens," he said. "We didn't expect any gangsters." Hmmm... then what was the benefit of getting their guns?
A city councilwoman comes up with an idea: the guns "no longer can be used in a crime."

Well, there smugness and elitism really comes through. I think these gun buybacks highlight an important part of the oppositions' goals and that is the mistrust of the general public to own guns. And their goal to regulate the only portion of society that is willing to obey the law to make them feel warm and fuzzy about themselves as they fail to realize that they can't control immorality and malicious will through legislation.
Sounds like an untapped market for gunbroker.com to advertise in!
Wow, makes me want to pop an ad up on Craig's list or something - "will buy your guns for $100 each". See what people show up wanting to get rid of. Might be a good way to quickly and inexpensively expand my "arsenal". Especially if people show up with "assault weapons".
they collected many long guns that never would have been used in a crime.
Asinine, but good PR (we're doing SOMETHING) to those who don't understand...which is the majority out here.
Can't be used in a crime until they're "lost" by the LAPD. But I guess THAT never happens, does it?
They also can no longer be used to stop a crime.
This seems to be what passes for anti-crime logic these days; take things away from law abiding people so as not to temp the criminals into crime.
This is why Muslim women wear burkas is it not?
And it certainly seems like the plan politicians have for our money! Take it all and voila! No more crime!
"Quick, quick, take your old guns down and turn them in for cash so you can go buy Ruger's new AR15.
Oh boy oh boy oh boy. Finally, an AR from a reputable company.
Did I mention it has a piston?
Wow! How cool!"
No. More like how lame.
"So many people showed up at collection sites with handguns and rifles in their trunks that organizers ran out of the Ralphs and Visa gift cards in the first two hours."
"In the first fifteen minutes after the organizers announced that the prizes were gone, the small building in which the program was being run took over 21,000 rounds of close-range fire and collapsed into rubble."
No, wait, they specifically DIDN'T hold these in the gangster areas. Good thing, eh?
Not used into a crime, until a member of the law enforcement department sells them to mexican cartels, like several federal agents have been doing lately.
No questions asked, huh?
I wonder how many of the guns were previously used in a crime, murder perhaps? So the perp drops off the evidence, and gets $100.
Pretty neat deal.
