You know, them cartel guys must just be both stupid and have way too much money. Lets see: A semiauto AK runs around $700 in the US. A pre-86 FA model runs around $14K and requires an armload of unconstitutional paperwork (Don't feed me the Congress has the authority to tax garbage. The 2nd amendment is latter law while the power to tax ia prior law which under "regular" readings results in conflicting prior law being overridden by latter law, EXCEPT in the special case of the BoR). So these folks in Mexico, come up here, go through the process of straw purchases, spend some SERIOUS coin and then try to haul the weapons back to Mexico. OR these same drug dealers can go just about anywhere in the third world and purchase FA AK-47s for about 15 bucks each. Naw, They'll go to all the trouble to get'em from the US.

Ejits in Congress!!!! Worse, ejits in the populace who believe any of the lies!!!!

Aw, dang. Now I have to go out and get a post-ban, pre-ban gun.

I am pretty sure it will come up only when it can be seriously tied to some other crisis. I am sure that the drug gang stuff in Mexico has some folks looking at it, at the very least.

Amazing thing is ... that right to arms guarantee, which enables the militia (armed citizens) was in part predicated on putting down insurrections. Gangs of criminals, engaged in the unlawful commerce and openly warring with police and military, certainly falls under the definition of an "insurrection."

More amazing is that politicians are able to turn logic and history completely on their heads ... and worse, seem to find some traction in so doing.

Now wait a minute...ATF says California is one of the big three weapon exporters to Mexico but the AWB never expired here. How can a new ban improve on something already banned? You can't have your cake and eat it too...

Dave, they'll just pass the same law again, but harder. They just have to redouble their efforts; it'll eventually work along about the time everyone has forgotten the purpose of the law.

Mr. Tierney ("distinguished" Representative from Mass...) stated that

. . . he is not seeking widespread gun control but Congress must do something.

“We don’t want to get distracted by the gun industry lobby of the NRA trying to talk about (how) every attempt to bring some sanity to the situation is somehow an attempt to get rid of everybody’s Second Amendment rights,” he said. “That’s a red herring.”

My comment is that gun control that limits sale of weapons limits the sale of weapons–whether those weapons reach Mexico or not is irrelevant. Perhaps Mr. Tierney means to say that his attempt to limit gun control due to Mexican drug-related gang violence is the red herring that distracts the citizens (and media) from the real goal of “gun control” (reducing our rights protected by the Constitution) in the United States of America.
