Freedom States Alliance shows ,,, something
I have trouble finding a short term for the ability to pontificate while remaining utterly clueless. Reporter runs story on handgun deer hunting season, apparently feels compelled to interview someone who dislikes it, and winds up running an FSA opposition to .50 caliber handguns, which, it attests, have an effective range of 2,000 yards.
The guy they used for testing must have awfully steady hands.
Hat tip to jdberger...

Seems like the biggest concern is that if handgun hunting becomes popular that more handguns will be stolen and used by criminals. I have an Idea. Lets pass a law that makes burglary a crime and then send the criminals to jail. Even if they get out of jail they, as felons, would be prohibited from owning a gun and therefore they would not steal any more.
And they can’t have it both ways. In the same article, the “antis” are concerned that a handgun can kill a police officer wearing a vest at 2000 yards, but is to inaccurate to kill a deer at 150 yards?
I refer to it as what it is, verbal diarrhea.
The brits have a good term:
wibble
[UK, perh. originally from the first "Roger Irrelevant" strip in "VIZ" comics]
1. n.,v. Commonly used to describe chatter, content-free remarks or other essentially meaningless contributions to threads in newsgroups. "Oh, rspence is wibbling again".

I offer "pompustulelator"
pom•pus•tule•lator
A pompous pustule who presents his pus as valuable.
How about "bloviate?"
ultracrepidarian: one who gives opinions on matters beyond his knowledge, or an exposition by one such.
I doubt any police officer in the US has been shot at over 1000 yards with any gun, let alone a handgun. Probably not even 300 yards. At least not since say WWII anyhow.
I read that article too. Is it not true that a .50 calibre bullet can travel 2,000 yards? Don't rifle bullets generally travel farther than ones shot from pistols?

Yes, a .50 BMG (Browning Machine Gun) bullet will indeed travel 2,000 yards. You can't fire them in a handgun, though. The lightest rifles I've heard of that shoot that caliber are around 20 pounds, which is exceptionally heavy for a rifle.
A .50 caliber handgun will be *LUCKY* if it will travel 1,000 yards, and it will only do that if you point it up around 35 degrees elevation.
Just because a bullets has a diameter of half an inch (ie., .50"), that doesn't give it magical properties. My flintlock long rifle is .54" caliber, but that doesn't mean it will be accurate at 2,000 yards and penetrate a manhole cover.
Freedom States Alliance? Why didn't the reporter get a quote from PETA also? At 10 p.m. last night, driving on Massachusetts Ave. in D.C., directly in front of the Vice-President's house, we saw two deer standing right next to the sidewalk. ... Had I had a gun, and had hunting been legal, I could have done my shopping for Thanksgiving dinner right there. ... Bambi aside, there needs to be lots more encouragement of deer hunting. They're rats on hooves that are infesting even our cities now.
Dad's reading over my shoulder.
He said "But .50 cal handguns DO have an effective range of 2, yards...if you put them in a fookin' catapult."
Most center-fire bullets, handgun or rifle, can travel well over 2000 yards rather easily and retain enough energy to kill at that range. The ability of even the best marksman to hit a man-size target at that range is an entirely different mater.
Fact checkers in the media are an extinct species, the exact date of their extinction is unknown because it slipped by without anyone noticing.
