FLA gun buyback

Posted by David Hardy · 14 August 2008 11:45 AM

With the usual result: people who are not criminals pick up some cash for old guns. The sad part here is that some of those had history, ownership by grandparents, purchase by a fellow, as a child, 70 years ago, etc..

Hat tip to reader Jack Anderson...

Yes, a lot of collectable - memorable weapons are turned to be melted for scrap. I think this is a good lessons to all us gunnies to take someone shooting and sit down with the next generation and expain what a particular gun means, maybe pass a story on if it's a war bring back, etc.

This just happened recently in CA.

A gun buyback was organized in Oakland, CA by Oakland PD, with participation of state Sen. Don "The Don" Perata (author of various antigun bills).

OPD ran out of cash and had to give payment warrants. I know one guy that made $1400ish from a bag of old rustbucket guns - OPD's cash ran out in the morning.

No bangers turned in their guns, just a few old folks - but major participation was by gunnies who wanted cash to buy new guns :)
