Hillary v. Obama

Posted by David Hardy · 2 March 2008 08:24 AM

Assessing those two on gun rights issues is a little like debating who was better on freedom of expression, Hitler or Stalin, but.... over at the LA Times blog, Tim Cavanaugh points out one distinction. When the bill to forbid seizures of lawfully-owned guns in the wake of a natural disaster came up, Obama voted for it, and Hillary voted against.

Via Instapundit, who notes that Obama seems to think the Second Amendment is about hunting, and thus has favored complete bans on handguns and semiauto firearms of all types.

During the 4 years 1998-2001, the Joyce Foundation
gave $18.4 million to gun control,
Barack Obama sat on the board of
directors those 4 years.

The annual reports show how they spend money
and who's who in the Joyce Foundation.

I'm sure those facts will make a reappearance if Obama gets the nomination. The NRA is going to have more bad things to print about Obama than it has places to print them.

Oh about the gun owners equals sportsmen meme, look at the distribution of the NRA publications- about 15k yearly subscriptions to the target shooting magazine but millions to the various political/hobbyist related magazines. The number of gun owners greatly exceeds the numbers of people that ever sign up for hunting licenses. I know I spent about 20 years shooting before I recently got a small game license to go squirrel shooting.

Obama likes to think he's a compromise guy who wants to accommodate "collectors" and hunters. He doesn't understand the issue at all from what I can tell.

GOA gives McCain an F- for 2004 and 2006, which is down from a C- in 2000 and 2002. Us 2A single-issue voters are going to be out of luck when it comes to the next election either way. Like him or not, Bush represents the high water mark for 2A activists for the foreseeable future.

Our best hope will be to hold the Senate/gain a seat and make inroads into Congress. This means using McCain's 'coattails' to our advantage. After the election, it will be a battle for the little things day in and day out.

Oh, I can hardly wait for the McCain-Leiberman-Feingold presidency!
